From the past comes the future.... |
Here at Maplewood, we are surrounded by the symbols of the past, and we cherish these symbols. They represent the powerful way God has worked around us over the past century. But God is not done with us yet! New traditions and symbols are being born in our midst! An exciting community of faith is growing daily on the foundations of our past as we grow in our understanding of how God in Jesus Christ is making all things new. (Revelation 21:5 "See, I am making all things new.") |
| Our History: Maplewood United Methodist Church was organized in 1962. May 6th the first Sunday School began June 17th was the first worship service August 29th the first business was held November 11th the formal organization, charter, and first quarterly conference was held Membership at the time of the charter in November 1962 was 79. Twenty-five years later the membership grew to 300. In year 2001 the membership reached its highest level at 350. The first pastor appointed to serve the Maplewood congregation in June of 1962 was the Rev. William L. McCord. While Rev. McCord was at Maplewood, the first 2 wings of the building were completed and membership was at 271. A nursery school was started, which is now known as Maplewood Preschool. The preschool has grown to 18 staff members and over 250 students. Parents of some of our preschoolers were once in attendance here! Because the Maplewood area was a fast growing part of Omaha, many new families became part of the church. Even today our membership is in constant change. Though we remain around 300 most of the time, the faces and families change. Of the original charter, there are 6 charter members still active. The following ministers have proudly served Maplewood United Methodist church:
The congregation began worship in a new sanctuary in May 1985. The accomplishment was
one dreamed of for 23 years during which time they worshipped in the fellowship hall. |
